Deconstructing the Camp Nai Nai Nai S’more

By Leah Jalfon

By Kristen Corradeno, Camp Nai Nai Nai Coordinator People come to Camp Nai Nai Nai for many reasons: to get away from the 9-to-5 for a weekend, to try bubble soccer for the first time, and for some, it’s to finally learn how to make a s’more. We’re not kidding. We’ve seen many campers wander up to our s’mores bar with wide eyes, never before having been given the chance to construct a masterpiece such as the s’more! “But where do I begin? What is the best chocolate to marshmallow ratio?? And why is this so important to camp anyway???” We’ve spent many hours, nay, DAYS collecting the data, and we finally are ready to present to you the deconstruction of a s’more.

1. Starting from the bottom Graham

The bottom graham cracker is a lot like your first day at camp. It doesn’t matter if you went with bargain priced crackers or with the fancy Honey Maid ones – you’re here now! You’ve gathered the strength and might to try something new!  And that’s what this adventure will be built upon. It sets the tone for the whole weekend, err… s’more! It sets the tone for your whole s’more.

2. Choose your own Chocolate

Traditionally- this is where you would next stack a sweet morsel of chocolate on there. If that’s your style, go for it. But what if you’re more reform? Maybe you’d rather put Nutella on there! Just as you get to choose your adventure at camp, whether you opt for Embodied Jewish Movement or a few rounds of bubble soccer – what you do with your s’more toppings are entirely up to you.

3. Marshmallow – the delicious glue that holds us together.

Like the new friendships you’ll make at camp, the marshmallow is our key element. In order to get the best experience, you need to decide whether you’ll open up (the bag of marshmallows) and decide just how vulnerable you are willing to get (is this going to be a toasty marshmallow or a gooey one?). Once you’ve opened it up to the flames of new friendship, it’s ready to be perfectly placed on top of your chocolate or topping of choice.

4. Topping off the experience.

Now, as you top off this marshmallow with the final graham cracker, you can feel proud of how far you’ve come. You’re sealing lasting friendships and unforgettable experiences all together to make the perfect bite to bring back with you to your everyday life… filled with new exuberance… and marshmallow? So come to Camp Nai Nai Nai and create some s’mores with us. It may seem daunting and new at first, but you’ll leave with a restored sense of joy and adventure! Early Bird pricing ends July 14th, register today at campnainainai.org! We’ll meet you by the bonfire.
