Parashat Beha’alotcha “When You Go Up”
In Parashat Beha’alotcha, we gain a deeper look into the Israelites’ journey through the desert. Guided by a cloud of fire that indicated when to journey and when to rest, and the sound of silver trumpets, they traveled toward the land of Israel under Moses’ leadership. Along the way, the people complained about their hardships, and Moses found himself caught between their frustrations and G-d’s expectations. Feeling overwhelmed by the burden of leading alone, he turned to G-d and admitted he could no longer carry the weight of the nation by himself. In response, G-d instructed him to appoint a council of 70 elders to help lead the people.
This parashah offers a powerful reminder that no one must carry life’s challenges alone. As Moses teaches us, asking for help can be one of the hardest steps, but support often follows when we do. It’s a message that feels especially aligned with the work we do here at Mem Global: nobody truly stands alone. Whether you’re a resident coming together to prepare for an event or colleagues serving as sounding boards for one another’s ideas, our global community is built on showing up for each other.
And if asking for help feels difficult, that’s okay too. Moses led for years before reaching the point where he needed additional support. If there’s one lesson to take from this parashah, it’s that while there may not be 70 elders waiting to help you with what you’re carrying, you are not alone. Your global Jewish community has your back.
