Mem Moment | The Dress Rehearsal
Parashat Tzav “Command” / Shabbat HaGadol “The Big Shabbat”
Shabbat is always coming, week after week, whether we mark Shabbat each week or only occasionally. And once a year, we have The Great Shabbat. This tradition is doing a dress rehearsal of Passover by reading the Haggadah, the Shabbat before Passover. In a text from the 1700’s, even before leaving Egypt, we were commanded to do just that. We had to imagine what it would be like to leave Egypt, even before we were forced to leave. Now, hundreds of years later, we can only imagine it if we practice it. Like any good show or immersive experience, you must do all the prep work, planning and logistics so when you get there for the main event, it’s seamless and runs smoothly. A seder is just like any good show, you must do the prep work to have a great seder, by reviewing the Haggadah before the “main event,” we can ensure, practice makes perfect.
How will you celebrate The Great Shabbat? How will you ensure practice makes perfect for your Passover seder?
