“Wicked 2: For Good” Movie Screening
INTRODUCTION:
The movie “Wicked Part 2: For Good” is the much-anticipated sequel to last year’s blockbuster hit. It traces the themes of good vs evil, othering, reconciliation and change. There are also many who say that the screen and theater productions of Wicked have many Jewish themes. Using the movie as a backdrop, this program will allow your community to screen the movie and discuss the themes.
MATERIALS:
- Tickets to Wicked Part 2: For Good
- Wicked Source Sheet (below) – printed
PROGRAM OUTLINE (3-4 hours):
- Before the movie begins, introduce the themes to watch for as they screen the film
- After the movie, host a discussion about what you saw using the Wicked Source Sheet (below)
Welcome and Framing (10 minutes)
- Introducing themes to watch for from the source sheet (below)
Screen the Movie (2 hours 18 minutes)
- Consider applying for a Jewish Learning JIO to help subsidize ticket costs
- Get seats together, supply snacks, encourage people to come in costume
Talk About it (20-30 minutes)
- Using the source sheet with questions as a guide, encourage conversation about what you just saw. You can work your way through the whole sheet or pick and choose elements from the sheet that your community wants to discuss.
- Consider taking this conversation to a local coffee shop, or back at Moishe House/Pod.
