With the MHWOW Development Scholarship, hosts have exclusive access to $200 during your year as a host to support learning, leadership development, or skill-building through workshops, classes, and conferences. Still looking for inspiration? Several hosts have already used these funds to support their own growth and directly impact their community-building efforts. Elena in California took a social justice course called “Penny Rosenwasser: When I Dare to Be Powerful” to dive into meaningful conversations and enable them to hold space for justice at their future programs in a more dynamic way. After the course, they said it was a “really special way to connect and give space to exploring internalized anti-Semitism with a focus on celebrating our Jewishness.” Another host, Hannah in Illinois, took a Harry Potter and the Sacred Text course to show her how to craft deep and intimate conversations from a popular source. She hopes to bring this insight to future programs to try to create more meaningful conversations about Jewish life and holidays. After the class, she reflected that it served as “a reminder that sacred reading is both about connecting with the text AND ourselves.” With this scholarship, hosts are learning and finding ways to bring it back to their MHWOW community.

We’ve got a few ideas to inspire your learning:

Project Zug: One host has been learning through Project Zug, which offers a number of havruta (pair-learning) courses. Consider a variety of classes like A Food Tour of the Talmud, Bob Dylan, or Building Jewish Pluralism.
Watercolor in the Woods: Use your scholarship funds to learn or improve upon a skill like drawing or painting, then find a way to incorporate some Jewish content and lead a program for your community to share what you’ve learned. Journaling for Self Care sounds like a pretty interesting course too!
Interested in social justice? Several hosts have found workshops and courses like Penny Rosenwasser’s When I Dare to Be Powerful and Don’t Kvetch, Organize with JOIN for Justice. Use your experience to organize a related service learning project and engage your community in social justice work.
