Welcome (5 minutes)
  • Today we will be crafting bookmarks to donate!
  • Before we start crafting, we are going to learn a little about where the bookmarks are going, why they are needed, and why it matters that this group is crafting them.
Service Learning (10 minutes)
  • Hand out service learning sheets and break into smaller groups to look through the texts and use the guiding questions for discussion.
  • Share out to full group any takeaways.
Crafting (15-20 minutes)
  • Create the bookmarks!
  • Remember nothing that can be seen an inappropriate: no religious symbols, political symbols, drugs, etc.
Clean Up (5 minutes)
  • Clean up craft supplies.
  • Create a pile of completed bookmarks (you will have to wait until dried to pack and send).
Closing Reflection (5 minutes)
  • Anyone want to share their bookmark or highlights from crafting?
  • How did we bring our text/learning/Mem Mindset to life through this project?
  • How do you want to continue working on issue area X (education or foster care) through your work? Through your personal time?
  • Anything you want to learn more about as a result of this project?

Donation Directions:

Find a local literacy, after school program, shelter, free library, meal program, ect. That will accept the bookmarks.

If you can’t find a local place, you can donate to a national organization such as Comfort Case which supports youth in foster care.
For Comfort Case, pack bookmarks in envelope or small box and ship to:
