PROGRAM OUTLINE (~60-75 minutes):
- Introduction (5 minutes)
- Warm-Up (10 minutes)
- Crafting (30-45 minutes)
- Closing (15 minutes)
Introduction (5 minutes)
- Before the event, spread out the materials in a big pile on a table or in the middle of the floor. As people are gathering, have music playing. Invite participants to flip through the piles and add anything they brought.
- When you’re ready to begin, pause the music and call for everyone’s attention.
- SAY: “Welcome, everyone! I’m so glad you’re here. A vision board is a powerful tool for manifesting our intentions. We’ll be using images and words to create a visual representation of the futures we want to build. I have a variety of magazines, craft supplies, and Jewish texts for you to use.”
- If you’re hosting this program as part of a new year program, make sure to connect the program to the hopes and dreams for the year to come.
Warm-Up (15 minutes)
- SAY: “But before we get started on the crafting, let’s do a quick warmup activity. In front of us you’ll see a bunch of materials, including Jewish art, symbols, images, and text. Take a moment and pick out one image or quote that feels connected to your Jewish journey in some way.”
- Give participants a few moments to pick something out.
- SAY: “Now, let’s go around – say your name, what you picked, and how it connects to your past, present, or future.”
Crafting (30-45 minutes)
- Now’s the time for participants to get crafting!
- SAY: “Thank you all so much. Now we’re going to get into the best part – the vision board making! As you look through these materials, don’t just look for images of things you want to have. Look for things that represent how you want to feel and who you want to be. Once you have a collection of images and words, start arranging them on your board. There’s no right or wrong way to do this. You can glue things down as you go, or you can play around with the layout first.”
- To signal the start of the crafting session, press play on the music
Closing (15 minutes)
- Have everyone go around and share one element of their board that holds special meaning, share a reflection on the process of creating the vision boards.
