MATERIALS:

  • Printed copies of chosen texts
  • Yoga Mats
  • Bluetooth Speaker
  • Device to play music

PROGRAM OUTLINE (~60 MINUTES)

  • Welcoming/Gathering (10 minutes)
  • Framing/Learning (15-20 minutes)
  • Yoga/Meditation (30 minutes)
Welcoming/Gathering (10 minutes)
  • Have calming music playing. Here are a few playlists of calming, Jewishly inspired music to choose from:
  • Invite everyone to grab/lay out their yoga mats and find a comfortable space.
  • Consider offering some fun snacks/beverages: fruit, cucumber water, coconut water, etc…
Framing/Learning (15-20 minutes)

For the framing/learning pick one source for each of the three categories below, trying to make your choices connected to one theme:
For example: openness, freedom, brokenness, joy, etc…

Jewish Text
(for the source sheets, feel free to pick one source from a larger source sheet)

Jewish Song/Chant
(pick a song, ideally just one line or two, that connects to the theme of the text you have chosen)

Intention/Blessing
(pick a blessing from Jewish liturgy or write your own to guide the practice)

  • Asher Yatazar (this blessing, commonly said after using the bathroom is a reminder of the holiness of the body)
  • Modeh Ani (a gratitude prayer typically said upon waking to remind us to give thanks for a new day)
  • Shecheyanu (a prayer giving thanks for bringing us to this moment)
  • A general list of Jewish prayers and blessings to use as inspiration.
  • Using the materials you’ve chosen, read the text you’ve chosen, then teach and sing the song you’ve picked and offer the blessing/intention you’ve picked or written.
Yoga/Meditation (30 minutes)

Consider ending by singing the song you taught/sang at the beginning or re-reading the text/blessing you shared to frame the flow.
