Paint and Sip Through a Jewish Lens

INTRODUCTION:

Add a Jewish twist to your next Paint and Sip with this ready to go program! This program offers multiple options for weaving Jewish themes, texts, and symbols into a relaxed art-making experience. Whether you choose to paint ritual objects, explore visual symbolism in Judaism, or spark discussion over Judaism and creativity, you’ll find accessible, ready-to-use ideas that help transform a classic Paint and Sip into a vibrant event. Let this guide inspire you to craft a night that’s both artistic and deeply rooted in Jewish tradition!  

PROGRAM SUGGESTION MENU:

Consider making Paint and Sip a regular program at your MoHo with this menu of options for adding a Jewish twist to your evening of painting and sipping!  

Program #1: Pomegranate Painting 

  • Welcome guests  
  • Have the group learn through the source sheet as a full group giving different people a chance to read the sources and respond out loud to the questions. Or you could break the group into chavruta (learning pairs) to learn the materials and then come back together to share what they discussed/discovered.  
  • Optional: Have guests crack open/juice their pomegranates.  
  • Begin painting either with pomegranate juice as the paint or painting still life of pomegranates.  
  • Optional: Consider serving a pomegranate themed cocktail or mocktail for the sip part of the paint and sip!  

Program #2: Torah Inspired Painting 

  • Welcome guests and explain the Jewish Studio Project and the Jewish studio process!  
  • Follow the steps of the Jewish studio process and learn though the Jewish Studio Project text source sheet that you’ve chosen. 
  • Continue the steps into creative exploration and reflection!  

Program #3: Forbidden Fruit Painting 

  • Welcome guests  
  • Have the group learn through the source sheet as a full group giving different people a chance to read the sources and respond out loud to the questions. Or you could break the group into chavruta (learning pairs) to learn the materials and then come back together to share what they discussed/discovered.  
  • Arrange still life with fruit and begin painting fruit still life.  
  • Optional: Have a bunch of fruit, fruit snacks, and of course fruit forward beverages to enjoy while painting!   

Program #4: Paint Kiddush Cups  

  • Welcome guests invite them to grab a glass of wine 
  • Optional (but an easy and empowering way to turn this into a Jewish learning program): Learn kiddush for Friday night or Saturday or both!  
  • Paint your own kiddush cups and sip delicious wine (from different glasses)!  

Program #5: Paint Challah Covers 

  • Welcome guests and invite them to grab some bread and beer (aka a wheat-based beverage for sipping)! 
  • Paint challah covers!  

Program #6: Wax Paint Shabbat Candles 

  • Welcome guests and invite them to grab a warm beverage (inspired by the warmth of the candles) to sip! Think about mulled wine, apple cider, tea, etc…  
  • Optional (but an easy way to turn this into a Jewish learning program): Learn through one of the following source sheets inspired by flame/fire/candles in Judaism: 
  • Create beautiful wax painted Shabbat candles for you and your community members to use on an upcoming Shabbat or holiday.
