Spread the Light
For many communities around the globe, December comes with many holidays and traditions. For many, as the popular song by Andy Williams states, “it is the most wonderful time of the year, the hap-happiest season of all.”
Many of the traditional way we mark this wonderful season is by spending time with family and friends, exchanging gifts, and feasting on lavish meals. These are difficult to take part in when you live below the poverty line and/or don’t have stable housing.
The holidays are not a realistic scene for a staggering portion society. This December season we can help to spread the light and bring some of that hap-happiest feeling to some of our neighbors.
Learn the texts below together, and have a discussion using these guiding questions to start you off:
- What stands out to you? What is challenging for you?
- In what ways can you personally spread the light this December? How can your community spread the light?
- Why is it important to give gifts (or donations) with dignity and joy?
