OVERVIEW: 

Would you rather is a great conversation starter and way to introduce people to one another.  It can be light and serious all at the same time and can allow groups to delve into some interesting learning and discussion.   

MATERIALS:  

• Would you rather questions 

• Snacks 

PROGRAM OUTLINE: 

• This program can be done in a variety of ways.  It can be a stand-alone fun program where you engage people while mostly hanging out.  It can be done as an ice breaker for a get to know you event, and it can be done to introduce Jewish content and connections during another program such as a Shabbat dinner or Havdalah. 

• The program can vary based on attendance.  If you have 10 or few people, you can play as one group with different people taking turns answering.   

• If you have a large group, you can divide into teams and have teams come to a consensus on their answer. 

• The game happens with one person starting as the “asker” and the other as the “answerer”.  To make it even more fun you have a timekeeper so that people have to think about their answer quickly instead of deliberating for a long time.   

• The game ends when you run out of questions, or when the conversation veers into another discussion based on the question asked.  

• Snacks, drinks (mocktails or cocktails) would probably enhance this program and the atmosphere.

• Would you rather… have to eat matzah or gefilte fish for 1 month straight 

• Would you rather… have to break matzah with your hands or your feet? 

• Would you rather… have a holiday with latkes or matzah balls? 

• Would you rather… give or get Hanukkah presents? 

• Would you rather… study Torah or Talmud? 

• Would you rather… have to hear Dayeinu (from Passover) or I have a little Dreidel on repeat? 

• Would you rather… have to eat cholent (Shabbat stew) or brisket for a year? 

• Would you rather… have meat or dairy? 

• Would you rather… have chicken or brisket every Shabbat? 

• Would you rather… meet Moses or Abraham? 

• Would you rather… have God reveal God’s self and know for sure God exists or keep it a mystery? 

• Would you rather… have lived through oppression in Egypt, or America during the Shoah? 

• Would you rather… be well known for something bad or not known at all? 

• Would you rather… be the one your father wanted to bless (Esau) or the one your father blessed because of trickery (Jacob)? 

• Would you rather… have a Passover seder with only 1 close friend, or with 100 strangers? 

• Would you rather… give a large amount of Tzedakah to 1 person, or a smaller amount to many people? 

• Would you rather… marry someone you never met, or never get married? 

• Would you rather…hear nice things said about you at your wedding, or your funeral?

• Would you rather… have Shabbat be the same day every week, or a day of your choosing each week? 

• Would you rather… attend Jewish Summer Camp, or Jewish Day School?

• Would you rather… be the concubine with no rights but able to have children, or the wife with all the rights but unable to have children?
