For Future Residents

Mem Global and Moishe House do not provide housing. Mem Global provides rent subsidies to Residents to offset the costs of a larger living space, which is necessary to host Moishe House programs.

Mem Global gives Moishe House Residents a monthly rent subsidy. Mem Global does not decide what amount each Resident pays for rent. Residents find a lease that meets their needs both in and out of Moishe House, including finding a rent that feels comfortable for them. The Residents discuss and determine their individual rents, taking into account the rent subsidy Moishe House provides. Rent subsidies for individual Houses are determined based on the number of programs an individual House is expected to run each month, and the cost of living in their city.

You want to become a resident! It’s an amazing experience, you will never forget! Below is an overview of what to expect before you officially move in.

Our Residents represent the full range of Jewish identities and lived experiences. We are proud that there are Moishe House and Pod Residents who come from many different Jewish religious and cultural backgrounds, it’s part of what makes our programs work.

In the United States, Residents are between the ages of 22-32. Outside the United States, Residents can be between the ages of 19-32.

Mem Global and Moishe House’s goal is to engage young adults with peer-led experiences. The age range is in place to help us find the right people and ensure that young adults feel comfortable in every Moishe House around the world.

Every Moishe House’s decision around kashrut and Shabbat observance is made as a group. There are many Moishe Houses and Pods that observe kashrut and Shabbat and many others that do not.

You do not! We welcome Moishe House Residents of all Jewish backgrounds. As a Moishe House Resident you will have access to Jewish educational opportunities through Mem Global retreats, Moishe House conferences, and to Mem Global’s Jewish Life Specialists.

It depends. Pods are responsible for hosting three programs per month. Houses are a little different! Houses are responsible for hosting between 3-7 programs a month. The number of programs a House is responsible for is decided by the Moishe House team to ensure your community has plenty going on but also allows for you to rest and recharge between programs.

Moishe House Residents commit for at least one year but depending on your age, you can be a Resident for up to 3.5 years. Most Residents stay for about 18 months.

Anything! We expect houses to lead Tikkun Olam, Jewish Learning and Jewish Culture and Holidays once per quarter. Otherwise it is up to you to create programs that will help you build a strong Jewish community.
