Base Englewood

Base Englewood is a part-time outpost in Northern New Jersey.

Base Englewood is led by Rabbi Justin Pines, who builds local community by hosting Shabbat meals, learning and chessed opportunities and holiday events, and holds one-on-one conversations with community members.

Rabbi Justin Pines is passionate about creating experiences where each person can bring their best and full self to the community. He serves as Director of Lay Leadership at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. He has worked closely with Rabbi Dr. Irving ‘Yitz’ Greenberg on a variety of projects, including a translation of and commentary on Rabbi Yisrael Salanter’s Ohr Yisrael (Koren Publishers, forthcoming).

The grandchild of four Holocaust Survivors, he received his BA in Communications from the University of Pennsylvania, his JD from Harvard Law School, and rabbinic ordination from Yeshivat Chovevei Torah. He practiced corporate law at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind Wharton & Garrison, LLP, is an alumnus of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship, and serves on the board of the Penn Hillel.

Justin, his wife Tali and their children live in Englewood, New Jersey, where he serves on the executive board of the Moriah School.
