Mem Moment | A Time for Growth and Renewal

Rosh Chodesh Iyyar

Rosh Chodesh Iyyar for the Hebrew year 5786 begins at sundown on Thursday, April 16, 2026, and ends at nightfall on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Rosh Chodesh is a monthly observance that marks the new moon. Though it is considered a minor holiday, I have always enjoyed Rosh Chodesh gatherings. There is something deeply comforting about coming together with friends with intention and purpose. It creates a dedicated time to be with those you care about and to share in joy, reflection, and new beginnings.

As I read about Rosh Chodesh Iyyar and the arrival of the spring season, I found myself thinking about New Year’s Day and the resolutions we make, ones that so often fall short. In contrast, reflecting on the Hebrew month of Iyyar and the energy of spring reminds me that new beginnings are constantly available to us. We are not limited to a single opportunity each year to make changes in our lives. Instead, there are built-in moments, like Rosh Chodesh, that invite us to pause, reset, and try again.

One of the most meaningful aspects of Rosh Chodesh is the opportunity it offers for reflection. It encourages us to consider our recent missteps and shortcomings, and then thoughtfully decide how we want to move forward. What goals do we want to revisit or redefine? What areas of our lives are ready for growth?

This is a time to look inward, to evaluate what we want to release, what we want to hold onto, and how we hope to grow in the coming month. Rosh Chodesh serves as a gentle reminder that growth is ongoing, and that renewal is always within reach.
