The Kolective FAQs
General
What is The Kolective?
The Kolective is a national network of Jewish young adults who are leading large-scale, high energy Jewish experiences for their peers. From chill social mixers to blowout Shabbat bashes, these events are all about enjoying a fun night out on the town – now with your own Jewish community! The Kolective offers these Community Builders support, resources, and a collaborative national network so they can keep growing their events, their communities – and their impact.
Who is The Kolective for?
The Kolective is for Jewish young adults in their 20s and 30s who are building lively social clubs in their cities, and who are ready to take their work to the next level. To be part of the Kolective, your social club should…
- Bring Judaism to life, whether that’s through holiday parties, Shabbat dinners, social mixers, Israeli cultural events, or other creative ways of celebrating Jewish community
- Welcome between 50 and 500 Jewish young adults to each event
- Host events at least four times per year
- Be pluralistic — open to Jews from all backgrounds and identities
Members of the Kolective also lead their events on their own, rather than hosting professionally or through a Jewish institution.
What is the connection to Mem Global?
Mem Global runs the Kolective alongside many other programs for Jews in their 20s and 30s, including Moishe House, Base, Camp Nai Nai Nai, Mem Global Retreats, and more. It facilitates the Superconnector network, including leading the annual retreat, provides additional grant funding for events and professional development, and offers individualized support and guidance from expert staff members.
But like all of Mem Global’s programs, the heart of the Kolective is that these spaces are led by Jewish young adults, for Jewish young adults. Mem Global does not run any of these social clubs ourselves – we just help the Superconnectors bring their vision to life.
Can my organization partner with The Kolective/a Kolective social club?
Many social clubs within the Kolective work with local partners for individual or recurring events. If your organization is interested in partnering with a Kolective social club, please contact the Superconnector who leads that group directly to learn more about their policies and partnership opportunities.
For Attendees
Is there a cost to attend?
It depends! Some clubs offer their events for free, while others charge a fee to help them cover the costs of putting on these large experiences. Check out the registration or ticketing pages for individual events to learn about their cost.
How do I find events?
To find upcoming events from clubs within the Kolective, please go to our Find A Social Club page. Click on the club you are interested in to visit their individual website or social media page, where they will have information about their upcoming events and how to register.
How do I RSVP?
If there is an event you are interested in, check out the club’s website or Instagram bio for the registration or ticketing link. A few groups, who don’t have a website or Instagram, send out RSVP information directly via WhatsApp or through an email list. If you can’t find their contact info, but want to get in touch with a club, register for a specific event, or join their contact list, please reach out to us at kolective@memglobal.org.
What kinds of events happen?
So many kinds! Each club within the Kolective brings Judaism to life in its own unique way – from an 8-course Shabbat dinner for 50 people, to a rooftop Purim costume party for 500 people. But they’re all dedicated to the same thing: helping you meet new friends, discover Jewish community, and enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience you’ll never forget.
Explore each club’s website and social media to learn more about their upcoming events.
How do I reach out about a specific club?
If you have questions about one of the clubs in the Kolective or need help connecting to your local group, you can email the Kolective team at kolective@memglobal.org.
For Superconnectors
What is a Superconnector?
A Superconnector is a Jewish young adult leader in their 20s and 30s, known for their creativity, enthusiasm, and signature hustle. They love going all out on epic events for 50 (or 500) of their closest friends – or, as they like to think, friends-waiting-to-happen. You can often find them cheers-ing during a Havdalah happy hour, having a blast at the center of the dance floor…or hard at work strategizing how to make that next event even better.
Who should apply?
Thinking about applying to the Kolective? We love to hear it! The Kolective is perfect for Jewish young adults who are building social clubs in their cities and hosting large-scale, high-energy events all about celebrating Jewish community and culture. If that sounds like you – and you’ve been missing that extra level of support, funding, and advice from other Superconnectors who just get it – consider this your sign to fill out an application today.
Here’s what we’re looking for from Kolective Superconnectors…
- Hosting events that bring together 50-500 Jewish young adults, at least four (or more) times per year
- Leading exciting experiences celebrating Jewish life, community, and tradition
- Your events are planned and led by you, not through an institution
How much time is involved?
Along with the time you are already spending planning and leading your events, Superconnectors attend four gatherings per year with the entire Kolective network: two in-person weekend retreats, and two virtual gatherings. You’ll also submit reports after each event you lead, sharing how it went and tracking key metrics. Finally, you’ll distribute one annual survey to your community members to help us learn about what they need and are looking for from their communities.
What support do I receive?
We want to help you do what you do best: create thriving Jewish community through events people can’t stop talking about. To make it happen, we provide grants so you can take your events to the next level, meet practical needs like event insurance and security, and most importantly, connect you with a collaborative network of other Superconnectors to share ideas, best practices, and brainstorm solutions. Along the way, we help you grow as a leader – both in the Kolective, and beyond — through exciting professional development opportunities.
Can I apply if my city doesn’t currently have a club?
Yes! Although the Kolective primarily supports Superconnectors who are already leading social clubs, we encourage you to apply if you think you could be a good fit. For example, if you have a large social network in your city and are already hosting events, but need an extra boost from grant funding to include more people, or to host more frequently, the Kolective could be just what you need to take your community to the next level.
When you apply, please outline how joining the Kolective will help grow your events, and share your plan for reaching the scale, and frequency, that’s needed for the program.
We are especially interested in supporting new clubs within these cities:
- Dallas
- Denver
- Seattle
- Phoenix
- Detroit
