The MHWOW Development Scholarship
As an MHWOW host, you have access to the MHWOW Development Scholarship, $200 to support your learning, leadership, or other skill-building opportunities that will directly impact your hosting. Courses and programs do not have to be Jewish, just some kind of learning experience that will impact your hosting and community.
You can find a Jewish learning course that intrigues you, tap into a new skill you’ve been developing, or find a way to take your virtual hosting to the next level. Find something that will enrich you, your programs, and your community, and apply here at least 2 weeks before the start date of the experience. Once approved, you will be reimbursed upon successful completion of the program and a brief reflection.

Sarah took a private cooking class to improve her skills for hosting tastier programs. Through the class she learned “ways to create efficiency without compromising on quality.” Elena participated in a Penny Rosenwasser social justice training to dive into meaningful conversations and to be able to hold space for justice at future programs in a more dynamic way. The course was a “really special way to connect and give space to exploring internalized anti-Semitism with a focus on celebrating our Jewishness.” Andrea hosted a Shabbat kayaking program then was inspired to take a Kayak Rescue Clinic course to be able to host “safe paddling events for people to feel connected to nature through Judaism.” Hannah took a Harry Potter and the Sacred Text course to learn how to craft deep and intimate conversations about texts and media. Hannah plans to try to create more meaningful conversations at future programs and said the course served as “a reminder that sacred reading is both about connecting with the text AND ourselves.” Liz took Hebrew lessons through italki to feel more confident in leading and participating in Jewish rituals at her programs. After completing the course, she said she feels “much more confident in my Hebrew, and I highly recommend this platform for anyone interested in improving their language skills in a way that is fun and accessible” and saw a direct impact on her programs: “I discovered I actually understood the Hanukkah blessings for the very first time (despite saying them my whole life!) while leading Hanukkah blessings for my friends and roommates.” Looking for more inspiration?
